"I Killed the President of Paraguay With a Fork. How Have You Been?"

I love John Cusack. And nearly all points that Chuck Klosterman makes in his essay This Is Emo apply to me. Yes, I fucking love and adore John Cusack and probably always will. And to me, he can do no wrong. One of my favorite films of his is Grosse Pointe Blank. The charming tale of a hitman who has to go back home for his 10 year high school reunion. And come face to face with the girl he left on her prom night, among things.

The soundtrack is excellent, and rightfully so because Joe Strummer of The Clash did it. Here are my seven pick off of it;

Blister in the Sun by Violent Femmes

Mirror in the Bathroom by The English Beat

Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie

Live and Let Die by Guns N Roses

El Matador by Los Fabulouso Cadillacs

Pressure Drop by The Specials

I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Nash

"Got Any Soul?"

"That all depends...."

Flashlight by Parliament

I have always dug this song. And I have been hearing it in the Superbad trailer. Clearly, Judd Apatow has excellent taste in funk.

Low Rider by War

Hate on this and I will fucking stab you. Just groove, man.

I Want You Back by the Jackson 5

It's a classic. And it's makes me wanna snap bubble gum and rock Cindy Brady pig tails.

Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In) by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.

So it's not the version from the Big Lebowski. But I think the Dude who still like this version.

You Gotta Know Whatcha Doing by Charles Wright

No, it's not James Brown. But it's still awesome.

Seven for Sunday; Oasis Edition/I Hate Wonderwall.

I love Oasis. As a kid I was told by my father I should hate them because they were a Beatles knockoff. Clearly, my father was very misinformed. Yes, there are Beatles elements but fuck you, I like Oasis, they produce complete and solid albums. I suppose I am to say that What's The Story Morning Glory? is my favorite Oasis album. The truth is, it isn't.

Sure it's good. But I hate it because everyone picks it for the same goddamn reasons. It contains both Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. Both are songs of our generation and whatnot. But they don't do it for me anymore. My favorite Oasis album happens to be Be Here Now. Which came after Morning Glory and I really don't even know if people even like Be Here Now. But that is kinda how I figure out if people have explored their catalog.

Digsy's Dinner by Oasis
From the album Definitely Maybe, before they were huge and before they were fine tuned. It's kinda rough and I think it could have been recorded in one take. It's not polished.

Live Forever by Oasis
From Definitely Maybe. This kinda reminded me of a David Bowie song once, but I cant' remember which.

Don't Look Back In Anger by Oasis
From (What's the Story) Morning Glory? This probably has some of Oasis' best lyrics. I like the line about trusting a rock n roll band given the volatile relationship of Noel and Liam Gallagher. I am still kinda amazed after all of this they have stuck together to put out this many albums and still plan on doing so.

"So I start a revolution from my bed/since you said the brains I had went to my head."

D'You Know What I Mean by Oasis
From Be Here Now. This is my song. I love this song. So much. I love how it takes more than a minute to get going. And you hear planes in the distance. I love how it ends all, uhm jagged I suppose. It's some of the best seven minutes of music ever. I can't imagine a song better to begin Be Here Now.

Fade In-Out by Oasis
From Be Here Now. Fun fact, Johnny Depp plays guitar on this song. It's not the only reason why I picked it. But it's something I like to often share.

Lyla by Oasis
From Don't Believe the Truth. Off of one of their most recent discs. And Oasis still does not suck and Lyla is proof of this. The opening is like, really happy clappy I suppose. I always hope to be a Lyla.

All Around the World by Oasis
From Be Here Now. It's 9 minutes long. And awesome. I prefer this to the Reprise version. At&T fucking bought this to use in a commercial not too long ago. I was livid. But it also meant I could hear the song more often.

12 Songs. Some standards and classics. Of sorts.

I bought the other day Shirley Bassey's greatest hits collection. I love her voice. I wish there was more to the album. But I pulled my favorites off of it.

Big Spender by Shirley Bassey
Goldfinger by Shirley Bassey
(Where Do I Begin) Love Story (Away Team Remix) by Shirley Bassey
Goldfinger (Propellerheads Remix) by Shirley Bassey
Keeping in with Miss Bassey, I picked some of the standouts off of the Verve Remixed Collection.

Verve Records was home of the some of coolest acts around. It's amazing all the classic songs that were on the label. I highly recommend getting the set, it features the Verve classics, remixed by a wide variety of artists. After the success of Remix, they released an Unmixed version shortly after. I need to buy that one.

Feeling Good by Nina Simone. Joe Clausell remix
Is You or IS You Ain't My Baby by Dinah Washington. Rae and Christian Remix
Manteca by Dizzy Gillespie. Funky Lowlives Remix
Fried Neckbones and Some Home Fries by Willie Bobo. Dan the Automator Remix
Whatever Lola Wants by Sarah Vaughn. Gotan Project Remix
Fever by Sarah Vaughn. Adam Freeland Remix.
Just One of Those Things by Blossom Dearie. Brazilian Girls Remix.
Peter Gunn by Sarah Vaughn. Max Sedgley Remix

50 Cent said that if Kanye outsells him when their albums drop on the same day, he will stop making records. Now, I would like to say both are releasing albums on September 11th. And I would hope everyone buys four copies of Kanye's album, because face it, his beats are so much better. And I think a music industry without Fiddy is most desirable.

Seven for Sunday; Massive Attack Amazingness.

I love Massive Attack. I get emotionally drunk off of them. I did the research once, but now the information escapes me, on England and triphop. Apparently, most of the music and the acts came of the Bristol area. And thinking back, I think the movement is briefly touched in the film 24 Hour Party People. See that film, Steve Coogan is wonderful. And what is interesting, is the people sitting in the room for the Sex Pistols first gigs, and who went on to start a band. Nearly everyone there did. But that is just a tangent.

Back to Massive Attack. Smooth and slow production. It just simmers. I rarely put their albums on shuffle because it seems to totally alter the whole thing if taken out of order.

I think my choices were off Mezzanine or 100th Window.

Angel by Massive Attack
One time, I listened to this song on repeat 12 times. Itunes counted it for me. it starts really quiet and slow, you might think it's not playing. I recommend turning up the bass for this one. And it's a man singing, but the voice is so asexual, it's why I like it.

Tear Drop by Massive Attack
I think it was Andrew who told me this is the theme song to the show House.

Exchange by Massive Attack
This reminds me of the 60s girl groups a bit. I had a version with vocals. But I can't seem to find it.

Karmacoma by Massive Attack
How about this, you listen to this song. Get back to me about what you think of it. Try and describe it.

Future Proof by Massive Attack
This should be called 'how to evaporate or change states in five minutes and fourty two seconds.'

What Your Soul Sings by Massive Attack
I wish I could remember the name of the vocalist on this track. I will get back to you on it. They use her often.

The Hunter Get Captured By the Game by Massive Attack featuring Tracy Thorn
Erm, this one is off the Batman Forever soundtrack. Which is actually a good soundtrack, which I don't know if I could say that about the movie. It's all slowed down and sexed out.
